Non-Immigrant Visa Interview Guidelines

1. Entrance Policy: U.S. embassies and consulates abroad establish entrance policies based on space limitations, security considerations, and resource management. In general, only visa applicants with an appointment will be admitted to the Visa Section. The Consular Section in Ankara conducts interviews in Turkish, Farsi, Arabic, and English. Translators for other languages are not permitted to accompany applicants for visa interviews.
2. Who May Accompany the Applicant: Only the following individuals may accompany a non-immigrant visa applicant during their interview:
    • Parents or legal guardians of minor applicants (under 18 years old).
    • A person assisting an elderly or disabled applicant.
    • Any individual specifically requested by a consular officer (must present either a 221(g) letter or an email from the Visa Unit).
3. Language and Location Considerations: Applicants from outside Turkey may apply for visas in Turkey. However, they should be aware that language barriers and interviewing officers’ unfamiliarity with local conditions from other countries may make it more difficult to demonstrate visa qualifications than in their home district or a designated post for their visa category.
Note: Only visa applicants with scheduled appointments are allowed entry, except for those listed under the approved exceptions above.
